Vishay Resistors
RESISTORS, FIXED
Vishay's discrete resistors serve applications in virtually all major market sectors. Resistive technology options include thin film, thick film, metal oxide film, carbon film and wirewound, as well as Power Metal Strip®. Vishay is the number one manufacturer worldwide of wirewound and other power resistors, leaded film resistors, and thick film surface-mount resistors.
NETWORKS AND ARRAYS
Vishay's resistor networks, resistor arrays, capacitor networks, and resistor/capacitor networks and arrays are based on thick film and thin film technologies. Mounting and configuration options include through-hole, surface-mount, and wire-bondable.
THERMISTORS
Vishay is the only supplier that manufactures both ceramic technology-based thermistors as well as thin film-based RTDs. That means customers have the widest choice of NTC and PTC thermistors along with TFPT and PTS RTD sensors for maximum sensitivity, stability, and accuracy in temperature sensing applications.
VARISTORS
Vishay varistors provide a reliable and efficient way to protect against high-voltage transients and surges. They have the capability to absorb high transient energies and can suppress both positive and negative transients.
TRIMMERS
Trimmers allow for easy adjustment of resistance values through physical manipulation. Vishay offers single- and multi-turn trimmers in a variety of case styles, sizes, and technologies. Trimmers are variable resistors that are commonly used for all applications in which the exact ohmic value needed for the design is not defined in advance. They offer easy adjustment (generally done with a screwdriver) and stability after being assembled on the PCB.
Main parameters:
Single-turn or multi-turn (single-turn trimmers are cheaper, while multi-turn devices offer more precise turning)
Through-hole or SMD designd (depending on the customer's choice)
Adjustment range: defines the max ohmic value needed
Overall dimensions: dependent on the available space on the PCB
Sealing level: dependent on customer's constraints
RHEOSTATS
Rheostats offer the advantages of our variable resistors with higher available power ratings. Vishay rheostats can be used in a range of applications, including rugged, demanding ones.
PANEL POTENTIOMETERS
Panel Potentiometers are variable resistors that are commonly used for all applications involving a reasonable number of cycles (few tens of thousands, manually actuated). Mounted behind the front panel for various equipment, they frequently feature buttons mounted on their shafts. Typical applications include: setting the light or the brightness of a screen, turning the volume for an audio application, setting the speed on tool machining equipment, or various parameters for industrial remote controls.
Typical markets include:
Off-road tractors, excavators, cranes
Avionic : overrhead panels
Medical : syringe pumps
Industrial : various parameters to be set up on machines.
Key parameters defining a panel potentiometer:
Resistive element material: depending on the application could be cermet of conductive plastic
Overall dimensions, dependent on the available space for the application
Sealing level: dependent on customers' constraints
Lifespan requested directly related to the application
Variation laws: a few are available (please refer to datasheets)
Admissible power: wide-range function of the potentiometer model
Other common options: detents (torque increase in determined position) / switches: rotary or push-push / mutiple resistive modules (multi-gang potentiometers) / custom shafts and bushings/ inner and outer shafts actuating different resistive modules
In summary Vishay offers a very versatile family of products with a wide range of potential options.
